Located at the edge of an expanding new community, this branch bank (Modesto Commerce Bank) provides a modern facility for an institution rooted in the history and land-
scape of the Central Valley. The building is composed of two simple enclosures joined at the transaction counter - a glass public banking hall and an opaque money-handling area. The roof structure, both sculptural and functional, is a folded plane that reaches over the site to shelter both the covered parking and drive-through bays, and shade the glass walls. The roof is supported by tree-like columns, their shapes echo the canopy of the orchards that once stood there.
