MH/A submitted two entries to the Off Grid 2.0 competition in 2009. This competition was to re-envision the program and ecological footprint at Horseshoe Cove on the North end of the Golden Gate Bridge. The second concept we named Stitched Ecologies.

At Horseshoe Cove, where the dry ecology of the Marin Headlands meets the marine ecology of the bay, an otherwise straight line is serrated to create a zippered condition where land and water interlock. The landform is cut and raised to accentuate the vertical dimension of the surrounding habitats. The process results in the series of slots which are accentued architecturally with shelter and ecologically with planting, creating zones for visitor exploration and learning.
